VerseBeamer

How it works

From spoken word to screen — with a person in charge

VerseBeamer does the listening and finding. The operator makes the decision. Here is what happens in between.

During the service

Four steps, a few seconds

  1. 1

    Listen

The operator presses Start Listening. Speech is turned into text as the preacher speaks, and the transcript appears in the console.

  2. 2

    Recognise

VerseBeamer looks for spoken references, quoted verses and requests such as “next verse” or a different translation — while the words are still arriving.

  3. 3

    Preview

A clear match is placed in Preview with its reference and translation. Less certain matches are listed for the operator to choose from.

  4. 4

    Go live

The operator checks Preview and sends it to every screen. Nothing reaches the congregation without that step.

Why it is safe

Three separate states

Recognising a verse and showing it to the congregation are different actions. VerseBeamer keeps them apart, so a misheard word or an uncertain match can never change the screen on its own.

  1. Detected

What VerseBeamer heard. Listed in Recent with its source.

  2. Preview

What the operator is checking. Only the operator's room sees it.

  3. Live

What the congregation and the stream see.

Before the service

Setting up

The first time VerseBeamer opens, a welcome window walks through these choices. They can be changed later in Settings.

  1. 01

    Install on the presentation PC

VerseBeamer is a Windows desktop application. It installs for the current user and opens as a single operator window.

  2. 02

    Choose your audio

Pick the microphone or the audio feed from your sound desk. A clean feed of the preacher's microphone works best.

  3. 03

    Choose your translation

Select the Bible translation to display. Requests made during the sermon can switch to another available translation.

  4. 04

    Choose the congregation screen

Pick the projector or display for the room, and add a livestream output if you stream the service.
